Namaste! The July full moon is coming up next Tuesday, the 16. The collective energies so far this July seem to be pretty intense for a lot of people. Especially with mercury and several other planets in retrograde. A tool I am guided to share widely, is moon water. Moon water is simply water that has sat overnight in the full moon light. I will share how to make it, what it does, and its many uses.
A little about moon energies
The different stages in the moon’s cycles carry different energies. So a new moon and full moon have opposite energies. A full moon is the stage where it is beaming the most sunlight to earth. And since the light is reflected off the moon, it has a different frequency than direct sunlight. The moon is associated with intuition, thinning of the veil, and healing. A few cultures regard the moon as being masculine, but it seems most common for the moon to be associated with goddesses and the divine feminine. When things bath in the moonlight (such as crystals, water, our own bodies), they become charged with the moon’s energy. It raises their energies. And in the case of water, the water becomes imbued with the properties of the moonlight. It’s like a way to encapsulate it. Especially since water is also associated with intuition, emotion, healing, and the divine feminine.
How to make moon water
There are many ways to prepare moon water. It can be as easy as sticking a bottle of water in a window that receives moonlight. I feel there are two important parts to consider. One, is that the water is in a clear container, so the moonlight touches it. And secondly, I believe, for best results, one should do this within 2 days prior or after the full moon. So next week, one can leave water out as soon as Sunday night. No later than Thursday night. But ideally on Tuesday night, when the moon is closest to its full point.
One can be as elaborate as they wish in creating moon water. Some things to try are:
- Drawing a heart, or other symbols on the bottle.
- Whisper the word “love” into the water.
- Charge the water with reiki.
- Put crystals around, or in the water containers (be mindful of the crystal’s physical properties).
- Experiment with colored glass containers.
- Use a chalice.
- Play a singing bowl (or other instrument) by the water.
- Use water from snow (for ceremonial purposes).
- Use water from a body of water, such as a lake or stream (for ceremonial purposes).
What can one do with moon water?
What can one do with moon water? Many things. Even though it isn’t a miracle elixir, drinking it can energetically support one physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I drink it on days when I work at psychic fairs and expos, to help keep my vibes high. It also helps keep one’s energy clear. When I emotionally struggle to ride the energetic tides, drinking moon water helps me to find balance (also check out my blog on stress relief). Full moons themselves lend a chaos to the physical plane. Drinking moon water helps to counteract one’s side effects of the full moon, both physical and emotional. I also drink it when I am sick. Cooking with it raises the vibe of the food. One can also experience the benefits of moon water by adding it to a bath. Houseplants love to be watered with it.
Moon water can be used for ceremonial purposes as well. I regard it as holy water, and believe it can be used in almost any ceremony that uses water. One can sprinkle it around an area for energy clearing. It can be used to bless people, places, and things. One Samhain, I used it in my Green Man Cake.
To the point
My point of this blog, is to note that many people are feeling intense energies, and going through some difficult lessons/initiations. The intensity may increase with the full moon. But moon water is a tool that I personally find useful. It lends energetic support to meet energies and initiations in grace, especially in conjunction with reiki and other spiritual ways of being.
If you feel you need additional energetic assistance at this time, I offer a distance reiki moon package. You may find more information here.
