Are you familiar with the “know they self” and the “to thy own self be true” sayings? In my self discipline journey, I feel that it is important to know how we tick. We can recognize what motivates us to perform actions, or to be a certain way. We can also look at our inner roadblocks. When we recognize these patterns, areas of healing, and concepts to re-frame, we empower ourselves to reach goals.
Here’s an example. Do you feel resistance to performing tasks, that you know should get done… And perhaps WANT to do them… I’ve been reflecting on ways that I’ve been resisting. I’ve also been reflecting on the paradigm of the “to-do list.” It has such a rigid connotation. The other day, I realized that when I look at my tasks at hand as a “to-do list,” I feel inclined to push back. As if this list of tasks is infringing on my self sovereignty. As I sat with that self knowledge, my spirit team guided me to think of the tasks as goals. The ones with deadlines coming up are higher priority, naturally. But re-framing them as “goals” relieves some of the pressure. The word “goal” seems to connote hope, inspiration, self agency, and a sense of reward. I then proceeded to write down my practical goals for the day, the week, the next month, and the year. And then, I wrote down some not so practical goals (or wishes) as well. It will be interesting to see where I go with these throughout the year!
