Wow, I can’t believe we are in the final week of July already! Here is a compilation of my mindful moments this past week.

Do you ever find that you have some relatively small tasks that you try to do perfectly? Or try to make them bigger than they really need to be? I find myself doing that from time to time. And I also note that this tendency leads to increased stress. Sometimes when I find myself fiddling a little too long with something, or feeling a little overwhelmed, I remember a few sayings.
The first one, “sufficient to suffice” from the book “I Heard The Owl Call My Name” by Margaret Craven. In other words, some things don’t need to be perfect. They need to be “just good enough” to do.
The second one is “this is not my opus.” My anthropology professor gave me this one, which was given to her by her own professor. I now pass this mantra to you.

This mindful moment is not my opus. It seems sufficient suffice.

If you would like explore my previous mindful moments, I have put them in a blog on my website! Here’s the compilation from last week:

Here is a meditation I do most nights after I get my kids into bed. The intent of this meditation, is to welcome love and light into my heart, and to transmit it to my surroundings and beyond. It seems to set a loving atmosphere for my kids to fall asleep in. This meditation is pretty adaptable. In this video, I lit a candle and used a grid. But it works well without ceremony as well. I’ve also used this at holistic expos, while traveling, and in uncomfortable situations.

Does something ever jog your memory about friends from times past? As I was cleaning today, I found a post card from Czech Republic. I had somehow met that friend through the internet, way back when ICQ was popular (it was an instant messaging service I started using in 2000). We somehow fell out of contact. But finding this post card reminded me how I cherished her friendship.

Sometimes that just happens, where we have a nice friendship, that just kind of stops. And that can an be okay thing. We come into this life with karma with other people, to participate in each others’ growth. Or, we even out some sort of energetic exchange. Once the karma and/or contracts are done, the relationship is often done as well. Sure, we could try to pursue a new relationship with the person, but then, we may create new karma.

Do you ever wonder why some spiritual folks do so much self work? Well, we are aware and mindful of our energy and vibration. We are keenly aware of our mission to assist humanity through divine guidance. In order to clearly receive, discern, and transmit this guidance and energy, we need to be “hollow bones” (as Oglala Lakota elder Frank Fools Crow would taught). We do a lot of self healing, and self clearing, so we can easily allow higher energies to flow through us.

There is a plethora of ways to mind our energy. The little things, like washing our hands, really do count when we do them mindfully. As we wash them, we can set our intent to wash away all negative energies that have accumulated on them. We can visualize those energies leaving our body. And then, we can shift our intention to receive light and love in its place. In my personal practice, I do a minimum of three conscious, intentional, deliberate self healings a day. This could include brushing my teeth, taking a vitamin, as well as my nightly reiki sessions.

Here is a brief bit about Frank Fools Crow:

His biography by Thomas E. Mails really inspired aspects of my spirituality.

It’s been a busy day. There are a few things I thought to write about, but didn’t get around to. So now it’s (a late) bedtime. And I am working on those conscious, intentional, deliberate healings I mentioned on Thursday. I really can’t emphasize enough how important it is to heal oneself. When we use crystals, essential oils, bodywork, reiki, etc. we are healing our DNA. Our DNA is energetically connected to our ancestors and our progeny, so they receive healing from our self work.

Do you feel good after a workout (even though you may be tired)? Medical practitioners tell us that exercise is good for our physical well being. Many experts also say it is good for our mental and emotional well being. It is also great for our energetic bodies as well. It gets energy running through our meridians. Meridians are major pathways through our bodies that energy travels. Exercise also benefits our chakras, which are major energy centers in our bodies. Meridians and chakras are sometimes connected with each other, as well as associated with physical body parts. At any rate, as energy runs through our energetic bodies, it can help to clear out low vibes, and raises our overall vibration. We can further boost the benefits of exercise, by practicing mindfully. Watching our breath. Taking note on our hearts circulating our life force throughout the body. Today, I felt particularly conscious of the ground beneath me, and felt more grounded.

I sometimes do some mantras while I am exercising. Years ago, in seminary, my teacher’s mentor, Christina Rose, gave each member in my class a message. She told me to use this mantra as I exercised: “life is rich and so am I.”

If you are curious about mindful movement, yoga could be a great thing to look into. I am blessed to know several wonderful yogis in different parts of the USA.

Do you thank and bless your food before you eat it? I often bless my food as I am preparing it, or plating it. As I eat, I extend gratitude to all the beings that contributed to getting it to my table. This includes all organisms, minerals, and elementals that contributed to creating the ingredients, packaging the food, transporting the food, and selling the food. I extend a little extra love and light towards the people involved in the fields, processing, and transportation of the food before me. If someone else prepared the food, I extend extra gratitude to them, be it my mother or a food services worker. I also remind myself how blessed I am to have access to my preferred foods.

I’m not normally one to photograph my meals. But I thought it would be goofy to arrange my lunch in a peace sign.
